Houston Rockets to Her Comeback
Now that Whitney Houston 's divorce from Bobby Brown has been finalized, the songstress is one step closer to her comeback. And I'm happy to report there's good news coming from her recording studio. R&B singer and songwriter Ne-Yo has heard some of Houston's new work, and he's impressed. "It's all good," he told Planet Gossip's Matt Donnelly last night at Lobby nightclub in West Hollywood, where he was celebrating his new album, Because of You. And he hopes to make it even better. He's writing some tracks for Houston, but he wants to avoid songs that scream "My name is Whitney Houston and this is my triumphant comeback," he said. "My contribution is just going to be regular songs. You been through this, you been through that—cool! We feel you on that. But two songs of that is really all you need." He thinks Ms. Houston should take a look at Mariah Carey 's comeback for inspiration. "Mariah didn't even discuss the drama that she went through," Ne-Yo said. "She just went right in with good, quality tracks." [Planet Gossip/E! Online]
Whitney & Bobby Finally Divorced
ORANGE, Calif. (AP) -- It's a formality, to be sure. But it's a pretty big one in the lives of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. Their divorce becomes final Tuesday.
Their 14-year marriage comes to an end, by virtue of a decision by the California judge who granted their divorce earlier this month. Orange County Superior Court Judge Franz Miller ruled that the split takes effect Tuesday. When the ruling was announced, Houston dabbed her eyes with a tissue. But Brown wasn't present at the hearing. As part of the ruling, the judge ruled that Houston would get custody of the couple's teenage daughter, Bobbi Kristina. During the court sessions, Houston testified that she didn't need spousal or child support and that her ex-to-be wasn't reliable enough for their daughter to depend on.Brown has been hauled into court several times in recent years for failure to pay support for other children he has fathered.
D-Day Arrives for Whitney, Bobby
Whitney Houston 's officially done being Bobby Brown 's missus. The R&B couple's divorce was made final in Orange County, California, on Tuesday, just six months after Houston first filed for the split. As it is, all terms of the duo's separation had been worked out well in advance of their mutual emancipation, with Superior Court Judge Franz Miller giving the judicial seal of approval last month and granting Houston full legal and physical custody of the couple's 14-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina. Houston, who was present in court for Miller's ruling last month, agreed at the time to give Brown a "reasonable right of visitation" to the child, though she opted not to request child support from her estranged hubby (a smart move, considering his well-documented aversion to such payments). The 43-year-old Houston first filed for legal separation from Brown in September; a month later, she submitted a petition for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. In December, Houston requested a default judgment from Miller to fast-track the process. According to court documents, the couple had a prenuptial agreement preventing them from amassing community property or paying spousal support to each other on the off chance that their wedded bliss ended up not so blissful. They wed June 18, 1992, but their union was rocky from the outset, marred by Brown's repeated entries in the police blotter, including charges of domestic abuse, a rehab stint for Houston and a trial separation. Brown, 38, chose not to appear in court and witness firsthand the demise of his marriage. At last month's hearing, an emotional Houston said it was "very difficult to communicate" with him. "He's unavailable...He doesn't keep his word. If he says he's going to come, sometimes he comes, most of the time he doesn't," she told the judge in making her case for a sped-up dissolution to their 14-year marriage. While Brown's attorney, Ram Cogan, indicated after that hearing that Brown would file a petition contesting Houston's custody of Bobbi Kristina, the singer has yet to follow through on the legal threat. This was the first marriage for both performers. However, Brown has two teenage children from a previous relationship. [E! Online]

Whitney Houston gets child custody
Whitney Houston 's 14-year marriage to Bobby Brown will officially end this month, and she will get custody of their teenage daughter, a judge ruled Wednesday. The singer dabbed her eyes with a tissue as Orange County Superior Court Judge Franz E. Miller ruled that the divorce will become final April 24. Brown did not attend the hearing. In court, Houston testified that she did not need spousal or child support and that the couple's 14-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, could not depend on Brown. "He's unreliable," Houston told the judge. "If he says he's going to come, sometimes he does. Usually he doesn't." Houston declined to comment to reporters after the hearing. Brown's attorney, Ram Cogan, said he will seek to overturn the judge's decision. Houston filed for divorce in October, citing irreconcilable differences. She was granted a default judgment in December to speed up the divorce. Miller's ruling Wednesday upheld the terms of that judgment. Houston and Brown wed in 1992, when she was at the height of her fame as a Grammy-winning superstar known for such hits as "I Will Always Love You." During their tumultuous marriage, Brown was arrested on drug and alcohol charges, and Houston twice entered drug rehabilitation programs. [AP]
Whitney's Divorce Gets Seal of Approval
As far as Whitney Houston 's concerned, broken hearts could do themselves a favor by going to Orange County. That's where a judge signed off Wednesday on the terms of the Grammy winner's divorce from estranged hubby Bobby Brown , awarding her custody of the couple's 14-year-old daughter, Bobbi Christina, and setting Apr. 24 as the day when Houston is officially free to dance with somebody else. Houston, who in December requested a default judgment to speed up the process of becoming single, reportedly got rather emotional during the hearing, dabbing her eyes with a tissue and refusing to speak to reporters outside the courtroom. According to court documents filed by Houston, 43, she and Brown, 38, had a prenuptial agreement preventing them from amassing community property and paying spousal support, leaving the issue of custody as the main item on the legal agenda. "It's very difficult to communicate" with Brown, Houston told Superior Court Judge Franz Miller. "He's unavailable…He doesn't keep his word. If he says he's going to come, sometimes he comes, most of the time he doesn't. "His schedule is erratic. I don't know where he's going to be at any point in time." For starters, Brown wasn't in court on Wednesday. His attorney, Ram Cogan, said that he will file a petition protesting the custody ruling, which provided for "reasonable" visitation with Bobbi Christina. Houston, who lives in nearby Laguna Hills, filed for a legal separation in September and then divorce the following month after 14 years of tumultuous matrimony which, along with stints in rehab (her) and jail (him), charges of domestic abuse and a trial separation, included a brief foray into the world of unscripted train-wreck television in the form of Bravo's Being Bobby Brown. All of that wouldn't fit on a divorce petition, however, so Houston just cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. At the time, she requested sole custody of their daughter, with visitation rights for Brown. The already high-profile couple (Brown being at the height of his New Edition and solo artist fame at the time) tied the knot June 18, 1992. And while it seemed as if they almost had it all, the past year has proved just how valuable a good money manager can be. The as-seen-on-Bravo Atlanta home the couple shared was auctioned off in November after falling into foreclosure, days before it was reported that Houston was $1 million behind on the mortgage on a 10-acre property she owned in New Jersey. But while Houston is spending her days in the O.C., Brown spent three nights in a Massachusetts jail in February-March after failing to appear at a hearing to answer to ex-girlfriend Kim Ward's claim that he owed $19,150 in unpaid child support. Brown's brother Tommy eventually shelled out the funds to spring him from the clink, overriding a Washington D.C.-area radio station's attempt to bail Brown out and in turn employ him as a morning-show deejay for the week. "We spoke with his attorney…and we decided it was in both of our best interests to agree to disagree and once we talked to him this morning, it was clear we weren't on the same page. The money will now be refunded and will be given to a D.C. charity," Hot 99.5 host Kane told E! Online at the time. Tommy Brown, meanwhile, said that his brother was out of jail already by the time the station announced its plan to get the "My Prerogative" purveyor on board, calling it a "publicity stunt." Whitney Houston Setting the Stage
Black America's favorite pop diva Whitney Houston is staging a major comeback.
According to published reports, the former chart-topping singer -- of formidable hit songs such as 'I Will Always Love You,' 'It's Not Right, But It's Okay,' and 'How Will I Know' -- is taking "the tentative steps toward reclaiming her once-flourishing career." Fox News's gossip guru Roger Friedman recently reported that Houston is venturing into a recording studio with in-demand writer-producer Johnta Austin. The protégée of hip-hop super-producer and new Island Def Jam president Jermaine Dupri, Austin won a Grammy Award for co-writing Mariah Carey's gargantuan comeback hit 'We Belong Together.' Other high powered hit-makers such as R. Kelly and Diane Warren have been associated with the project, which is expected later this year. While some reports indicated that Houston has started recording in New York City, sources tell The BV Newswire that she is expected to start officially working next week in Los Angeles, where she was reportedly going to rehab for substance abuse. This season, fans of the multiple Grammy Award winning chanteuse rejoiced at the fact that she appeared on the soundtrack for Tyler Perry's latest movie 'Daddy's Little Girls.' The song 'Family First' also features the voices of her family members, including pop music legend Dionne Warwick, gospel and soul music stalwart Cissy Houston and Houston's teenage daughter Bobbi Kristina. Music industry legend Clive Davis, who is credited with discovering Houston and shaping her stellar career, will oversee the yet to be titled comeback opus. "We are reviewing material right now," he recently commented to the 'New York Post.' "She looks radiant and is clearly together. She is talking enthusiastically and is articulate." Platinum-plated R&B crooner Ne-Yo, who composed Beyonce's chart-topping hit single 'Irreplaceable,' is also in the Whitney mix. The Arkansas native (legally known as Shaffer Smith) recently told MTV Radio Networks of his plans to work with the diva. "She's definitely recording; I've heard a few songs that she's cutting," he said. "Vocally, Whitney's back. Real talk. She's definitely back. I've done a few songs for her that her people have told me that they like. We just gotta find the time now to get in there and get'em done." A spokesperson for J Records --Houston's label -- remained mum when prodded for details about the recording process today, but Davis (who made Alicia Keys an international phenomenon over the past seven years) seems quite confident of the effort. "We are going to make a great album," he added. "In my opinion, the best singers in the world are Aretha (Franklin) and Whitney. That's not to knock Mariah. Mariah is a friend of mine, but I think Mariah would even say those two are the best." [ By Karu F. Daniels AOL BLACK VOICES]

Whitney Houston Starts Work on New Album Today
Whitney Houston begins in earnest to record her comeback album today. Houston, who's been in rehab for about a year in Southern California, is about to make the tentative steps toward reclaiming her once-flourishing career. The first step is venturing into a recording studio with superstar writer-producer Johnta Austin — pronounced "Jon-tay." Austin won a Grammy for co-writing Mariah Carey 's hit "We Belong Together." The hope is that he can work his magic again with Houston. I already told you in this space about a month ago that music mogul Clive Davis has already settled on roughly seven songs for Houston, including those by R. Kelly , Diane Warren and other big-name producers. Another name in the hat: a writer called Fernando. One song Houston might try: Julia Fordham 's "Angel Without Wings." In any case, until someone hears her sing, no one will know for sure if continued drug abuse and smoking has harmed Houston's famed voice. To that end, I hear she's been working with a good vocal coach. Stay tuned. [FOXNEWS.COM]

CBS/AP)  Released just last week from jail, troubled singer Bobby Brown and his soon-to-be ex, Whitney Houston, reunited at the posh Beverly Hills eatery Mr. Chow on Sunday with their daughter, Bobbi Kristina, to celebrate her 14th birthday. Brown and Houston, who are divorcing after 14 years of marriage, put on a happy face as they left the swanky restaurant Sunday night with their daughter. Bobby Brown: Whitney Houston and I Are 'Friends'
Bobby Brown is looking forward to life after Whitney Houston – though the two remain close because of their daughter, he tells People. "We're trying to work everything out so the divorce goes right – not like a Hollywood divorce," Brown said at Thursday's annual Vanity Fair Amped concert in Hollywood. "We're friends, you know. We're friends."
Brown, who is dad to Bobbi Kristina, 13, with Houston, added, "I'm really looking forward to her doing her thing, and me doing my thing. And that's raising a child. It's beautiful. Our child is beautiful." Houston filed for divorce from Brown in October after 14 years of marriage, and petitioned in December to fast-track the divorce. But the estranged couple shared a dinner together with Bobbi Kristina in West Hollywood on Feb. 11."It has brought us closer together, always," Brown told PEOPLE of parenthood. "We have been close because of who we are together, and what that child means to us. She's the greatest thing in both of our lives. We just appreciate each other now that we know the direction that we both want to go." Asked if he was dating any new women, Brown said, "There's a few." Both Brown and Houston have upcoming albums, and Brown said he is shooting a follow-up to his 2005 reality show Being Bobby Brown. "I'm as happy as I can be," he said. "I know God has given me a talent that I can use forever. As long as I stay healthy, I'll be okay." [people.com]

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown were spotted having dinner in Los Angeles this weekend, but don't expect the estranged couple to get back together."It was a one-night dinner between divorcing parents for the sake of their daughter," Houston's rep, Nancy Seltzer, tells PEOPLE. "They are not reuniting." The couple's 13-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, as well as her friend and the friend's mother, were all present at the Sunday night out at Dan Tana's, Seltzer says. It's all about Whitney Houston on Grammy eve
Singer shines at producer Clive Davis's annual pre-awards bash
Music impresario Clive Davis held his annual pre-Grammy party last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and there was one person on everyone's mind — Whitney! A radiant Whitney walked the red carpet on the arm of Clive Davis, the head of the RCA/J Records Group. Performers at the party included Pink, Carrie Underwood, The Black Eyed Peas, and newcomer Jennifer Hudson. Justin Timberlake, who was scheduled to perform, backed out due to a high temperature. Clive told Access Hollywood earlier this week that they've started on her new album already. "I loved watching her listening to the songs — as we went over it to see what she felt. And we are ready, so I would say about four weeks from now we are going to (officially) start," Clive told Access . When asked how Whitney was doing, Clive said, "Well she is looking great and she is feeling great; she has obviously been through a trying time but you know, when the going gets tough the tough get going and she is ready!" AccessHollywood.com's Laura Saltman was at Clive's party and asked many of the celebrity party attendees about the woman of the hour. Legendary keyboardist Herbie Hancock advised Whitney not to try to come back until she was 100 percent. "Yeah, sure she can come back. It all really depends on her. I think the most important thing is that she has a comeback within herself. Forget the public. I mean, she has to have a comeback within her own life. If she does that then she's accomplished everything she should be accomplishing," Hancock said. Actor Terrence Howard spoke very optimistically about how there's no way to keep a talented artist down. "Well, the beautiful thing about talent ... I was talking to Jack Nicholson and he said ... One of the things he's always held onto and one of the things he would always have, no matter what happens in his life is his talent. His talent," Howard said when prompted about Whitney. "Marlon Brando... people couldn't stand him, but his talent. His talent is what kept him before the masses because there's something very special about that. At the Golden Globes I was talking about my own individual life. You can make so many mistakes, but that's what being human is all about...And the more daring you are, the greater the fall, but also the greater the climb" Clive adds that he always believed Whitney would come through this hard time. "I've known Whitney since she was 18 — her roots are with a Baptist minister mother, who's better known as Sissy Houston. Her father was a bright business — she comes from religious ties, a strong belief in family togetherness, and so you can only hope you don't have any illusions. I can say to you when a family member goes through a crisis you hope that what is inside them enables them to overcome the toughest of problems. So that is why people need medical assistance." Singer Whitney Houston arrives at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party held at the Beverly Hilton

Houston, Hudson and a Former Vice President
Clive Davis said it best last night at his annual pre-Grammy party: “Welcome back to music, Ms. Whitney Houston .” Houston was looking better than ever as she made her way into Davis' soiree at the Beverly Hilton hotel. I saw her, and I can tell you she is looking happy and healthy. She shined in a Roberto Cavalli dress and Chopard jewels. But Ms. Houston did not sing. Davis is slowly gearing fans up for Houston's comeback. He keeps giving everyone a little peek. It was in October when Houston made her first public appearance since announcing her split from Bobby Brown . She was Davis' date to the Carousel of Hope Ball. Last night, she held court at a table in the middle of the room. Everyone wanted to say hello. Houston chatted with Al Gore , and  Mary J. Blige gave her a long embrace. Naomi Campbell gave a big hug, too. So, why didn't Houston sing? Because it's not time yet. She'll be back. I'm told her new album is coming along just nicely. Insiders tell me there are already several surefire hits. If Houston continues on this so-far-successful road to recovery, there's no doubt she will be Davis' star performer at his party next year....[eonline]

Dreamgirls Star Hudson Dreams Of Houston Duet
Oscar-nominated Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson is getting so many floral tributes from her famous fans she's thinking of how to preserve the pretty gifts. Halle Berry, Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston have been among the big names offering the singer their support as she gets ready to battle for a Best Support Actress Oscar later this month. Hudson says, "It's all so overwhelming. I'd like to find a way of keeping this special time special." And she's hoping the messages and gifts from Houston will lead to a chance to duet with the diva. She adds, "I would love to do a duet with Whitney Houston. That would be a dream for me." And that dream just could come true - Hudson starts work on her first album next month with music mogul Clive Davis, Houston's longtime mentor. [contactmusic.com]

Whitney Houston Preparing for Comeback
Whitney Houston is getting ready for her big public debut. At least that's what sources say about the beleaguered diva's plans to re-emerge on the arm of recording industry mogul Clive Davis Saturday night at Davis' annual pre-Grammy dinner and show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. It's the hottest ticket in town. If Houston does show — and there's every reason to believe she will — this may signal the beginning of the biggest comeback in pop history. Houston, according to sources, has been living on the beach in an unprepossessing house near her drug counselor, Warren Boyd , the same man who finally helped Courtney Love turn her life around. Boyd must know what he's doing. Love, as I told you last week, has recorded a masterpiece of an album that she's now shopping to labels. I'm told that Boyd watches Houston like a hawk, not letting her slip from his sight. The pair is even living in close proximity to each other -- in a pair of houses on Laguna Beach. Houston has only been back East once recently, to spend Thanksgiving at her Mendham, N.J., estate with family and close friends. And while Whitney may bring fledgling singer Ray J with her to Davis's party as a date, the pair are just friends. Houston knows Ray J through his sister, Brandy. Then again, Brandy herself is having so much trouble right now with her hit-and-run and a $50 million civil suit brought by the victim's parents that Houston might do well to just bring her mother instead. Houston is not expected to sing at Davis' party, but she will be rooting on many of her friends who may also be in attendance, from Mary J. Blige to Justin Timberlake . (No guest list is available this soon. It's a Davis tradition to have as many surprises as possible.) The singing will come next if she, Davis and Boyd feel that she's ready to take on the pressures of resuming her music career. Houston — inarguably the best voice of her generation — could be the story of 2007. [foxnews.com]

Whitney Poised to Record Again
Whitney Houston will return to the recording studio to begin cutting what could become her comeback album. That's the news from Clive Davis, the recording industry honcho who has been godfathering Houston's career from the beginning -- and who has remained her friend through her travails with estranged husband Bobby Brown, her troubles with the law and drugs, etc. Lately -- since her split from Brown, to be specific -- Houston has been looking more and more her old self. Davis says, "I love that poll that said that out of all the comebacks the public would like to see -- Tom Cruise, Britney Spears and others -- Whitney's was the most looked-forward-to comeback by America. That made us very happy. As far as the status of her record? "We've chosen seven songs. We're getting incredible material in from all over the world -- the best songwriters are sending us their work," he says. Come next Saturday, February 10, "Whitney will be my date," says Clive, for his annual, ultra-glam pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Davis never announces in advance who is going to perform at the event attended by Hollywood's and the music industry's biggest stars, but since he's doing an album with "Dreamgirls" Oscar nominee Jennifer Hudson, and Beyonce and Jay-Z are also coming, well...could be a Dreamy night in more ways than the usual. Producer Bryan-Michael Cox in recent interview with MTV mentions Whitney. Here is what he said:

Also on Cox's plate is the comeback album from Whitney Houston, for which he's already produced three tracks.

"I think that Whitney being gone so long is to her advantage," Cox said. "She has so many options. I'm leaning toward more classic Whitney, but I want to produce records that talk about what she's been through. You hear all negative press it's up to her to tell her story and basically make records that mean something."

Tell Me No inspires Serena Williams
This is what Serena wrote on her official website:

Someone on my Myspace page wrote me and asked me to listen to a Whitney Houston's song called "Tell me no."   I love that song.  In it she says tell me no and I'll show you I can... Here are some the lyrics I especially like:

I'm reaching for my dreams
And you're so quick to say what I can't do
You criticize my actions
But I don't see you standing in my shoes
I'm going the wrong way
I'm doing the wrong thing
Every word just keeps me fueled.
So come on and tell me no and I'll show you I can
And if you're making me feel bad
Than tell me than do you feel good?
I'm just human and all I'm doing is what my heart tells me I should
So come on and tell me no, and I'll show I  can

Congratulations Serena! You did it perfectly :-)

Underdogs talked about Whitney's come back album in recent interview with Billboard Magazine.

Q:You're due to work with Whitney Houston. Among others collaborating with her is Akon, who told Billboard recently that he'll be doing uptempo records with her since she's coming out of a dark period. Have you figured out what approach you'll take?
Mason: We've met with Clive [Davis] a couple of times about direction and what he's expecting. It's some of what Akon was saying. However, Whitney also needs to have the songs that everybody loves to hear her sing. We'll get more into it in January.
